In Motion combines strong dance technique and discipline with the artistry and self-expression that allows dancers to achieve professional excellence in whatever they pursue. We empower our dancers by valuing their individuality and thus creating self-worth. Our goal is to develop well-trained, happy, and healthy dancers in a nurturing and fun environment.
Founded in 1972 by Dorothy Del Guercio
Our History
In Motion Dance Studio, formerly Dorothy Del Guercio School of Dance, was created by beloved founder and owner Dorothy Del Guercio in 1972. An energetic and active member of the Mendham and Chester communities who sought to bring the joy of dance to those of all ages, Dorothy lovingly welcomed and oversaw the instruction of generations of dancers who proudly called her studio home.
Dorothy’s lifelong appreciation of the creative arts, dedication to teaching, promotion of the magic of self-expression through movement, love for and personal interest in each and every one of her students, and commitment to instilling the values of kindness, teamwork, and inclusion led to the creation of a highly supportive environment where dancers feel comfortable, confident, celebrated, and empowered. Through her extraordinary leadership, the studio came to represent a home away from home where students and their families forged lifelong friendships and created special memories that would help shape their life, career, and character.
Through a half-century of inspired dance classes, renowned annual recitals, top-notch instructors, numerous special events and community performances, and positive daily interactions, Dorothy’s loving and unwavering spirit lives on in her signature dance studio and in the thousands of students and families who have been and will continue to be graced by her indelible legacy.

Our Mission
Since its inception in 1972, In Motion Dance, A Dorothy Del Guercio Legacy has emphasized quality instruction while building the skills, values, confidence, and self-esteem that will benefit students throughout their lives. From ballet, modern, hip-hop, and tap dance to other forms of creative movement for all ages, students will enjoy professional instruction which enables them to build critical skills and proper technique while experiencing the joys of creative expression and having fun.
From their degrees in dance education from major universities to their professional performance experience, certification in the techniques of the dance world’s most respected leaders, and affiliation with the area’s most popular dance companies and venues, our seasoned instructors bring a wealth of training and experience to students. Our signature dance companies, In Motion and In Motion II, provide student members with additional exciting opportunities to enjoy instruction from an array of outstanding guest choreographers and to perform in a diverse array of renowned venues, from Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ to Carnegie Hall and The Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York City and many more.

Thanks to the strong foundation we help create at In Motion Dance, many of our students have gone on to pursue fulfilling careers in the professional dance and dance education arenas.
